Currently, As I'm writing this here in the UK, We are experiencing long periods of hot and dry weather. Sounds great if you have your wedding coming up soon. In the summer we have more daylight, warmer weather and you can be outdoors later into the evening without having to reach for your jacket or cardigan. BUT... There's one fundamental flaw with having your wedding during the summer months. The gorgeous, low, dreamy light occurs too late into the evening.
We as photographers, rely on great quality light to be able to deliver photographs that you would proudly hang on the walls around your home. One of the troubles with summer weddings is the time the sun starts to get low on the horizon, which doesn't often correlate with the itinerary of the wedding day. The image above was taken only a few days before the summer solstice. So before we could get outside and make the most of this sunset, the reception, speeches, cake cutting and first dance had already taken place. Typically, it's ideal to get these kinds of photos before any of those events have taken place.
Top considerations for an Autumn wedding:
• That early low light. Everyone loves it and your hair & make up artists work will blossom.
• Cooler temperatures. Another reason your hair & make up artist will thank you.
• The colours from the trees and foliage. Let Autumn help you with your colour theme.
• No harsh midday sunlight. No one looks good with a scrunched up face and squinting because of the sunlight.
All this is not to say that hosting your wedding during the summer months is a no go. Your photographer will have many ways to manage the light and make the best of the time of day to make sure that you're presented with a collection of fabulous images.
