Your day, captured on film.
So why would you want to add film to your wedding package, or even have your wedding shot entirely on film? Good question. I can tell you that film has many unique qualities that digital just cannot replicate in the same way. Let’s dive in and see why you should consider having your wedding captured on film.
Isn’t Film lower quality then digital?
Quite the opposite actually, Film has an infinite capacity to record colours, lights and darks in a way that digital even today, can’t quite do in the same way. The way the colours are rendered on film is managed by who the film is made. Remember the Kodak company? They are still around and continue to make some of the most amazing film stocks for capturing people looking their best. Film has a dynamic range (the difference between light and dark) that digital cannot replicate. So the brides dress will retain its gorgeous detail just as much as the grooms darker toned suit. The same goes for skin colour, both lighter and darker tones are captured in a far more flattering and honest way than what digital is capable of.
Skin tones
Film has a unique way of rendering skin tones which is far more flattering and versatile than what digital cameras can reproduce. Without getting too technical, the transition from lighter tones to darker ones is smoother, therefore providing a very flattering and colour accurate depiction of your skin tone.
Film grain
Film grain is made up of silver halide crystals which is how it records light to create an image. It’s the “graininess” that adds an extra “je ne sais quoi” and that analogue feel that we know and love.
